The Material Recover Solutions (MRS) project is one which has been devised and set up with an organization called Harter Industries. Harter is a Major Repair facility in Phoenix , Arizona and has been instrumental in setting up this type of process. Because of the legislation surrounding Components and Sub-Components it was necessary to set up detailed records and areas for the whole process. Harter has provided all this and more at their facilities and as the project grows they will be the key player in its expansion. Of course Harter cannot deal with all components so another company or companies will need to be brought onboard. EVS and Harter are in negotiations with another major repair facility to add to the capability for this program. |

Material Recovery Solution Airlines and operators, particularly those with only limited in house capability, have long been under the general impression that units classified as BER were of no significant value. Even the choices presented with the quote contained language that perpetuated this image; ‘scrap in house’, ‘scrap on site’, etc. To add insult to injury the owner is often faced with return shipping charges, loose assembly charges or other inspection fees and, if they desire a second opinion the whole cycle repeats at roughly the same or increased cost. Many suppliers feign concern by offering to ‘dispose’ of the unit in house and waive the BER fees. Astute operators might be alert to this but circumstances, past practices, logistics and the lack of alternatives frequently drive an unqualified decision to scrap at the supplier for the lowest immediate cost and this can allow the less scrupulous supplier to recover units from the operators at minimal cost.......................................................
